The Green Revolution/Farm Laws

Just came across the brilliantly compiled and narrated 3 part series from Unscripted that connects the dots from the focus on industrialisation and neglect of the village economy (ignoring Gandhi’s suggestions and focus), to the myths that led up to the Green Revolution, to the horribly short sighted, 1st order driven band aid it proved to be both from a scientific and policy pov with all the nth order effects that have devastated millions — incomes, value, nutrition, health — and threaten generations now.

The 2nd one does a deep dive into what the Green Revolution led to. Connects many many dots, including with water, subsidies, nutrition, health, economic loss for many and finally climate change issues.

And the final part that discusses the farm laws. They represent a gross injustice meted out on those that bore the brunt of the Green Revolution push, to start with. But rescinding them isn’t sufficient, and an entire realignment with multicropping, agro-ecological food systems is necessary to push and support. And just like it was done for the Green Revolution, an ecosystem and support mechanisms to help with the move are important for us to create as a country.

I’m committed to assisting and bringing together all those driving this massive change in every way I can. It’s the biggest change needed esp in the face of ecological degradation and a changing climate, and will need every single one of us to change something — diets, buying behaviour, investments, farming practices, policies, entrepreneurship agendas and styles.

We cannot go on with perpetuating the death force we’ve foisted on our land and our populations.
